Haushcka (Volker Bertelmann)

In Conversation with Caitlin Yeo

The Australian Guild of Screen Composers would like to invite you to an In Conversation with visiting international guest screen composer Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka and AGSC President, Caitlin Yeo. In addition to the conversation Volker will be performing a selection of cues from his recent films.

Volker is a pioneer in the field of ‘prepared’ piano music, which involves conjuring an extraordinary range of sounds by placing everyday objects on the strings inside the instrument. Hauschka signed with Sony music in 2018 and is published by G. Schirmer Australia. For his first album with his new label - A Different Forest - he does away with his customary instrument preparations to focus on pure unadorned piano.

Volker is the composer of Hotel Mumbai (starring Dev Patel) and the co-composer of Lion (starring Nicole Kidman, Dev Patel and David Wenham).

Lion received twelve AACTA Awards, including Best Music, and grossed just over $140 million, making it one of the highest grossing Australian films of all time. His score for Lion (co-composed with Dustin O'Halloran) went on to be nominated for numerous major awards, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and BAFTA.

Volker writes extensively for TV and documentaries in Europe and recently completed the BBC TV series Patrick Melrose, winner of the 2019 BAFTA Awards for Best Lead Actor (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Best Mini-Series.

Haushcka is performing a career spanning set in Sydney and Melbourne. See his tour dates Here:
