Petra Salsjo

Biography

Born in Sweden but relocating to Australia as a young child, Petra Salsjö has a strong melodic flare and is an accomplished pianist and vocalist. Immersing herself in almost every area of music making, Petra studied Improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts (completed with first class honours), completed Post Graduate Studies in Screen Music (AFTRS) and Composition (Melbourne University 2014) and attended the Verbier Music SummerFestival Academy in Switzerland.

Petra is composer for short, feature and documentary films.

Her first feature was nominated for Best Original Soundtrack at the 2016 Sydney Indie Film Festival. She received Best Original Score for short films ‘Miro’ (2017) and the acclaimed… ‘The Telegram Man’… which went on to receive a BAFTA LA, plus over 50 national and international awards and was screened at the Gallipoli Dawn Service from 2013 to 2019. It has now been archived by the American Academy of Motion Pictures in Hollywood.

She has also released two independent EP’s of original song work, toured nationally and received high rotation radio airplay. Petra has collaborated with some of Australia's finest musicians and songwriters.

Petra is a Board member of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers and is represented by Origin Music Publishing.
