About The Event

Please join AGSC Vice President Brett Aplin for It's Not Just About The Fee! - a discussion of copyright, publishing, licensing, royalties and other boring stuff that may end up mattering more than your fee (or at the very least should be factored into your fee!)

Most of us just want to write music, and hate having to navigate and negotiate music agreements. However, a basic understanding of copyright, publishing, licensing and royalties as they pertain to screen music composers will allow you to consider important questions such as:

● What concessions are reasonable to ask for if the fee is low?

● What should be on the table if the fee is reasonable?

● Should you increase your fee if the terms of your music agreement are not favourable?

● How might understanding the basics of copyright, publishing, royalties and licensing help you strike a far more equitable deal?

These issues go right to the heart of your career longevity and may save you a significant amount of money over the course of your career.

So if you intend screen composition to sustain you well into the future then join Brett in a discussion on these issues and more, and discover how a little knowledge can help you negotiate a far better deal.
