EDUCATION COMMITTEE

August 2020

The Education Sub-Committee has been active across several fronts, including conducting the research for an Indigenous Screen Composer Initiative, in partnership with APRA AMCOS's ATSI Music Office & Screen Australia's Indigenous Department . Then there's the success of the new Emerging Screen Composer webinars which are helping build relationships between the guild and tertiary institutions, such as Sydney Conservatorium, A.I.M., Box Hill Institute, Collarts Melbourne and University of Adelaide.

The 1hr webinar, developed by Brett Aplin and Dale Cornelius is titled: TOOLS FOR THE EMERGING SCREEN COMPOSER or…How to convert your passion into a creatively satisfying & successful business which can sustain you! and covers three main topics, as well as highlighting the  work of the AGSC and the benefits of student membership.

  • Relationships - Why a show-reel or CV alone is never enough

  • Contracts, language & self advocacy - Discussion of rights, royalties & how to earn more

  • Resilience - Releasing the ego & participation in your community

The webinar will be delivered to a number of tertiary institutions this semester in 2020.

The Education Committee is also working on a number of other initiatives and developing more detailed educational webinars which focus on areas such as; ‘Contracts-copyright-publishing-licensing-royalties’, ‘the filmmaker-composer relationship or the psychology of the brief', and ’negotiation skills’.
