Mark Buys


Mark is a composer of music for the modern orchestra, specialising in music for Film, TV and Documentaries. Internationally in demand as both a composer and orchestrator, Mark is a craftsman of music for the screen. His original music, orchestrations and performances, as a guitarist, are heard worldwide on an expanding list of studio and independent productions. Over the years Mark has worked with a variety of acclaimed composers, such as Christopher Young, Johan Soderqvist, Heitor Pereira, Brian Cachia and Kostas Christides; and his orchestrations have been performed and recorded by international orchestras worldwide. During Mark’s 3-year residency in Hollywood he worked in some of the most prestigious film music studios, including Remote Control Productions (Hans Zimmer) and Ilsley Music (Christopher Young), supporting and contributing to major projects encompassing Film, TV, Games and production music. Mark’s arrangements for live entertainment and music theatre include work for composers like Stephen Schwartz; and his ‘Off Broadway’ orchestrations earned him an ‘Honorable Mention’ at the New York Music Theatre Festival. In addition to his work as a composer and orchestrator, Mark has a strong commitment to the training of young musicians and composers. He frequently lectures in Orchestration, Film Scoring, Music Technology and Interactive Composition, and he has been a guest lecturer on these subjects in the USA.
