Chris Cobilis is a sound maker living and working in Perth. His 20 years toiling as an improviser and playing in bands has informed an ad-hoc practice taking in conceptual composition, installation and original music for feature films, dance and theatre. Cobilis has performed internationally since 2006 and in 2012 undertook an Asialink Arts residency in Taiwan. Additionally Cobilis has been the administrator of SymbioticA since 2011; a role concerned primarily with managing its laboratory and residency program. In 2015 Cobilis created This Is You; a conceptually-driven work centred on the birth of user-generated media: the emergence and endurance of Australia’s and America’s Funniest Home Videos. This Is You was interpreted live in studio by the Grammy nominated Spektral Quartet and the voice of Kenneth Goldsmith (poet laureate of MoMA NY): both responding to texts derived from episodes of both TV shows. "...a bewildering model of the feedback loop between sun-light/consciousness, and probing the relationship between technology and the way we perceive ourselves…, 2016
